An Unexpected Harvest

Lessons from the Garden
I just lay our garden to rest. We had harvested some herbs, more hot peppers than we could keep up with, enough salad greens for a borough of bunnies, and several bushels of tomatoes. Not a bad crop for a small 16’ x 8’ plot. I was most excited to harvest Marketmore cucumbers, one of my favorite summer crops. However, none of the cucumber seeds planted had come to fruition!
I was disappointed when not one of these tasty treats came up. I began to consider what went wrong. The soil conditions were conducive, irrigation was ample, and the other seeds germinated well. Alas, I had found the problem! I had not planted any Marketmore cucumbers. To my surprise, the seedlings I thought were cucumbers were baby melons sprouting! Oops!
Two Types of Seeds
The Bible says that our lives are like gardens producing harvests of what we plant. God describes two types of seeds in Galatians 5:16-6:10 that we can sow in the gardens of our lives: the seeds of flesh and the seeds of the Spirit. Sowing to the former harvests a crop of destruction; sowing to the latter harvests eternal life (Gal. 6:8). With so much at stake, it is crucial that we examine the types of seeds sown into our lives.
May we, using the Scriptures as a guide, know what to look for, what to uproot, and ultimately discern what to plant. May we pray and partner together—in planting Spiritual seeds. For if we do, God promises that we will be harvesting His blessings forevermore!
Planting together,
Keith
